The BBC article said that school girls are calling for self defence classes to be on the national curriculum.

I don’t think that is inherently a bad thing. All kids should be able to walk in confidence and without fear.

But can we see that this is NOT focusing on the issue! That some boys grow up to become men who feel entitled to women. What are the boys being taught? What’s on the PSHE curriculum? What is being done to teach boys that “alpha males” like Tate are NOT someone to look up to or aspire to!

On my Threads post there were comments in favour of teaching SD that said, “self defence makes us safe” “men are incapable of controlling themselves” “the boys can not be taught it’s genetic”

I mean first of all this is such a disservice to men. Who can control themselves if they’re not entitled dicks.

But it’s missing the point SO much: women are not responsible for the actions of men.

Please tell me you get what I am saying. 😩

As I read that young men are commenting “your body, my choice” on women’s social media, and hear anecdotally that some boys have been saying it to girls in American schools, it’s time I rolled up my sleeves.

And finished that kid’s book that teaches consent.

I didn’t see the show. Only the clip that went viral. And I don’t know what happened afterwards.

Her comment stopped everyone in their tracks. Silenced the panel and the host.

But I think it went viral because it highlights the lived experience of women and girls every day. The high alert awareness we have when walking alone.

And that even the good guys don’t know how that must feel and forget it’s a thing.

This is not a post against Paul Mescal.

But rather to ask why do you think this went viral. And has it shone a light on VAWG and how much work is still needed to make women and girls safe.
